The UCC runs a number of events throughout the year for its members, and welcomes further ideas or suggestions for club events. You may volunteer or suggest an event if you like.

XML is more than just a buzzword, its the a basis for many technologies in use today. This tutorial-style talk (similar to the Linux talk earlier) will teach you to use XML and XSLT to create documents and web-pages in a much simpler, and more efficient way.

UCC, UniSFA and Unigames run a quiz night annually. The quiz night is a hilarious evening of silly games, answering questions (ranging from the slightly obscure to incredibly obscure), and hurling (verbal) abuse at the judges – but not too much. In theory, prizes are awarded for those teams who answer the most questions correctly. In practice the judges decide who wins based on a complicated system of bribery. Needless to say, this is an 18+ event.

UCC's programming competition for 2012 is free for all to enter, and offers some cool prizes!
Stratego is a popular board game of incomplete information, and there is plenty of room for different tactics, simple and complex.
You don't have to physically come to the clubroom to participate, but if you want to ask questions about the competition and/or chat with other people about their ideas, being in the clubroom is strongly recommended!
Alternately, hang out on the IRC channel #progcomp for discussion, updates and announcements.
The shedule thus far:
The Preliminary Rounds are worth 10% each of the total scores
The Finals are worth 80% of total scores
Note: Although this is a "Competition", it is fairly informal. If you have no idea where to start, plenty of people on #progcomp would be willing to help out.

Guild Council Meeting Room
The AGM is the meeting at which the new UCC committee will be elected for 2012. The only way to be represented is to attend. As a fresher, you should attend in order to run for the position as Fresher Representative. If you don't know where the Guild Council Meeting Room is, arrive in the UCC a little early and follow the mass exodus.
Minutes for the AGM are available here
For more of what's going on see the UCC's history pages and the guide.
